The Future of TV Through The Eyes of a Legend

Journalists and students came together for an all-day event Wednesday at Syracuse University to watch history in the making.

The event was dedicated to SU alum Fred Silverman who is the only person to have ever run programming for three original television networks ABC, CBS, and NBC.

The symposium, entitled “From Test Patterns to Pixels: Envisioning the Future of Television” focused on Silverman’s impact on the entertainment industry and how it is evolving.

In this forum “The Future of Programming and Television Networks”, the panel of journalists talked about the future of television.

“The future is wonderful said Jonathan Rodgers, President and CEO of TV One. “Ten years from now, it will be focused on the Internet.”

Fred Silverman agreed that the Internet will be the future for television but he also felt that it was currently underserved.

“I think it might be fun how you reinvent a TV show,” said Marcy Carsey, Network Television Executive and Producer.

The panel discussed not only the evolution of television, but also radio, TV commercials, product placement, and content.
