Tomorrow Syracuse Police command staff will discuss procedural operations for the first time since Friday’s shooting left 14 people dead at the American Civic Center in Binghamton.
The twice-monthly meeting of the department’s highest ranking officers will most likely revolve in part around last week’s fatalities, Lt. Joe Cecile said.
Cecile declined to further comment on Wednesday’s agenda.
“Until we have that meeting I don’t know what will be discussed,” Cecile said.
The police department does not comment on safety procedures, but Cecile says he is confident that Syracuse personnel will be prepared in case of a similar incident in the community.
He does not believe area schools or civic centers have any reason to be concerned about their security.
“We have training that revolves around that type of scenario,” he said.
Binghamton police responded to such a scenario on Friday when Jiverly Wong, 41, opened fire at the immigrant services center.
Police arrived at the scene approximately five minutes after a wounded receptionist called 911 from under her desk.
The shooter killed 13 people and took his own life before law enforcement entered the building.
Several others had barricaded themselves in the basement and awaited assistance.
