Avian Energy Crisis

As the United States attempts to solve the problems of dwindling natural resources, they now have to consider the consequences of creating alternative energy sources. A new government report is now saying that the implementation of new energy sources is contributing to the sharp drops in bird populations across the United States.
"Energy development has significant negative effects on birds in North America," the report states.
Birds have to deal with their habitats being encroached by manmade energy structures. These structures are frequently flown into by birds and some others refuse to nest near them. This has caused many of the bird populations to dwindle.
In the past 40 years, population of birds living on the sea, prairie and deserts have dwindled by over 30 percent. In addition many of the bird groups with the most rapid declines inhabit areas with the greatest potential for energy development.
The report has received support from environmentalist and scientist and many believe it will call for a change in the way the energy crisis is handled.
