The State of New York is offering competitive grants for federal stimulus money and Onondaga County Executive Joanne Mahoney is doing everything in her power to acquire as many funds as possible. In order to ensure that the county will receive as much money as possible, Mahoney has created a team of experienced grant writers to acquire the money.
Mahoney has dubbed them as the “Stimulus Swat Team”.
Mahoney has put Jean Smiley, the Deputy Public Health Commissioner of Onondaga County as the head of the team. Smiley will be managing the team of top county staff members to make sure the county can make the best of stimulus opportunities.
The team hopes to acquire money to begin many of the projects that are shovel ready, or projects that ready to go, but currently lack the necessary funding.
