U.S. Open Snowboarding Championship Underway

Extreme athletes are flying high at the Stratton Mountain Resort in Vermont where the U.S. Open Snowboarding Championship is taking place. The competition kicked off this morning with Session One, a best-of-two pre-qualification round in the 22" superpipe.

Snowboarding superstars Shaun White and Kelly Clark will both participate and likely perform to their sky-high statuses, impressing many and building highlight reels throughout the competiton.

However, Hannah Teter, a crowd favorite, will be grounded for the weekend. The 22-year-old Vermont native suffered a dislocated shoulder in a fall at the U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix last weekend, and will sit out for this time around.

40 thousand fans are expected to turn out over the four-day affair, and will not have to pay a cent in order to do so. Admission for all spectators is free.
