Tourney Kickoff
It’s that time of year again and March Madness is officially underway. The NCAA tourney is top heavy with seven BIG EAST teams while receiving three one seeds in Louisville, Pittsburg and Connecticut. The ACC also received seven bids along with the Big Ten while the Pac Ten got six and the Big Twelve also had six. UNC is the other one seed led by Tyler Hansborough, who became the ACC’s leading scorer against sixteen seeded Radford today. UNC’s starting point guard Ty Lawson missed the Radford game with a toe injury. Fellow one seed Connecticut also was without a major factor with Coach Jim Calhoun out with an illness. Butler and LSU kicked off the opening round of the tourney in a classic eight versus nine matchup with LSU coming out on top 75-71. Two seeded Memphis avoid a classic upset by coming from behind to defeat fifteen seeded Cal St. Northridge 81-70. In another eight nine matchup Texas A&M easily defeated BYU 79-66.
