United States authorities fighting the war on drugs can rest easier knowing that the son of notorious drug lord, Ismael Zambada, was arrested Wednesday by Mexican authorities.
Vincente Zambada, 33, of Sinaloa, Mexico was arrested at a home in Mexico City. Zambada was detained after authorities received tips about suspicious activity, the Mexican attorney general’s office said in a news conference.
Zambada was believed to be serving as the head of operations and security for the Sinaloa cartel. It is believed to be one of Mexico’s most powerful drug cartels.
The Sinaloa cartel is responsible for smuggling cocaine and methamphetamines into the United States through the Mexico City airport.
The United States, in conjunction with Mexico, launched a cross-border crackdown on drug trafficking, forcing drug cartels to be on high alert.
Zambada, along with five body guards, are among the 755 Sinaloa cartel members taken into Mexican custody as suspects. Zambada’s brother is among those previously held for drug trafficking.
